Gift Idea: “Alone in the Wilderness” DVD

Remember the "Into The Wild" movie where that cute kid with great hair left civilization to be one with the land? Well, Dick Proenneke also did that but he knew how not to die. Proenneke, a retired mechanic and carpenter, rules in so many ways it will make your head spin:
"Dick Proenneke retired at age 50 in 1967 and decided to build his own cabin on the shore of Twin Lakes. The first summer he scouted for the best cabin site, and cut and peeled the logs he would need for his cabin. Dick Proenneke returned the next summer to finish the cabin where he lived for over 30 years. Dick filmed his adventures, and Bob Swerer later turned the film into a video so we can all watch this amazing man build his cabin by hand."
In a couple years I'm totally going to do this, ya know, get in touch with my inner Thoreau and head to the great outdoors. I'll grab an ax, a planer, a compass and one of those wool man shirts and just live off the land... for a weekend... not a long weekend, probably just get up early on Saturday and return late Sunday (avoid some traffic). It will be majestic. Can't wait to sell the rights.
(Thanks to PBS for turning me onto this fascinating doc. I'm still not giving them any money, but thanks.)
