Cameron Crowe Excited about New Soundtrack

Cameron Crowe

“I’ve been working close to five years on this soundtrack and I think it’s my best one to date,” said an animated Cameron Crowe discussing his latest music compilation that will accompany his new movie project that has yet to be written or cast.

“This is my life. I’m a soundtrack maker. Nothing gives me more satisfaction than searching for and finding the perfect old classic rock song that says, ‘Hey world, look at how much more I know about obscure 70s and 80s music than you do.’”

Crowe, relaxing in his home office wearing a Badfinger t-shirt and listening to Bread’s third album “Manna” on his vintage record player, expounded upon his life’s love. “It’s extremely important to me to find the coolest old rock songs or the latest inoffensive, adult-alternative songs before other soundtrack makers like Quentin Tarantino, Wes Anderson or Sofia Coppola put it on their soundtracks.”

Known for his other hit soundtracks Say Anything, Singles and Almost Famous, Crowe spends countless hours digging through indie record stores and going through his own sizeable collection of vinyl. “There’s this rare Flying Burrito Brothers song from 1971 that did not make it on any of their albums that I am trying to get the rights to. That will definitely kick off my next soundtrack! I mean, right after the requisite Elton John and Nancy Wilson songs. She’s so awesome, have you heard her latest? People love Heart, you know.” Crowe asks as he forces a stack of her latest CDs into my hands.

For current music, Crowe finds inspiration anywhere and everywhere, “I was driving with my sister in her minivan and she was listening to Ryan Adams and My Morning Jacket. She was snapping her fingers and her little kids were singing along. It’s pleasant background music that my demographic will dig and will definitely move major units… perfect for my new soundtrack.”

When asked about the new film that accompanies the soundtrack, Crowe was not as enthused as he thumbed through old copies of Cream and Circus magazines he keeps piled on his coffee table. “Films are just something you have to do, you know, to promote the soundtracks and keep the suits at the studios happy.”
