The Posies? Sugar? Why these two videos you may ask? Because this lucky boy is going to see Mr. Mould & Jon Auer (The Posies, Big Star) in NYC tomorrow night at some fancy place called The City Winery.

My friend Nick B. (WSJU deejay, early 90s, silly hair) mentioned this gem in a Facebook update recently. I’m glad he did. This lovely tune is off the 1994 masterpiece –  and I don’t toss around the term lightly, so pay attention — “Bakesale”. It is one of the 10 best records of the 1990s. [...]

Back in 1987 Rush entrusted the video for their song “Time Stands Still” to a guy who was not afraid to use a green screen and a special effect or 4,000. The pitch: “Hey Guys, love your stuff! BIG Huck Sawyer & Limelife fan, anyway… for this video, I’m thinking… now stay with me… ‘floaty and frenetic? Huh? And I got the ‘Voices Carry’ chick to chase you around a bit with a TV camera. It’s gold, right? Let’s do it.”‘

We played these guys on our podcast about two years ago, and I’m still digging this CD hard. Lush, hypnotic, poetic, AM-radio-influenced goodness. And yes, I do have a strong urge to dress up like a Satyr and hit the woods.
