Ein Prosit! "The 176th Oktoberfest started on Saturday the 19th, kicked off by Munich Mayor Christian Ude, tapping the first keg with a cry of 'O'zapft is!'." View lots of festive photos.
FYI, I blacked out in the basement of a large Munich beer hall after a full day of drinking many moons ago. I was out cold for about four hours, my friend found me, I snorted some snuff (it's magical and disgusting at the same time) and I was back to hoisting massive litres all night long (proof). Ahhh, sweet sweet youth. Anyway, Munich is a great city, especially if you're a beer or glockenspiel enthusiast. Oh yeah, the oom-pah band, who drank non-stop while they played, would take a break every 3 0r 4 songs for a bathroom visit. There's your German culture lesson for the day. Bitteschön.
Growing Pain: Looks like ol' Mike Seaver is still up to some hijinks (sans Boner).
Make Some Noise: Michael Cho describes his book cover design process for Don DeLillo's "White Noise" for @PenguinClassics. Love it.
Looking to Get Away? Strange Geographies: Ghost Towns of California.
I'm With Stupid: Gotta love Stripey in the middle.
Bob Dylan Hates Christmas! Jesus Christ, does this suck.
International Intrigue! Follow @mrdavehill on the Twitbox this week as he navigates his way through London.
"It's shower time. People of London, your votes please. Blinds open or closed?"
"I need to go buy some toothpaste. Please don't let there be another word for that too. I just want to brush my teeth, dammit!"
