On the heels of the surprising news of LL Cool J’s induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Hip-Hop Hall of Fame announced its 2010 inductee class which includes Lil’ Wayne, Lil Kim, Lil’ Bow Wow, Young Jeezy, Bushwick Bill and the lead singer of pop rock act Sugar Ray, Mark McGrath.
“We as a hip-hop and rap community wish to acknowledge the influences of all people who have directly contributed to the legacy of our music, and also those who have made contributions indirectly” said Rodney Van Winkler, a spokesman for the organization.
Asked about the contribution of the Sugar Ray leader and entertainment show host, Van Winkler replied, “Mark’s unique vocal style, rhyming ability and occasional rap interludes evoked a true hip-hop flavor that reached out to many young white people who may never had been exposed to our musical genre. Plus, Sugar Ray had a black deejay… I think.”
McGrath will be introduced during the ceremony by Brian Austin Green.
