Rock Concert Posters

I love poster art, you should too. I’m not talking about that “Goodfellas” poster you just purchased in Deck The Walls or the 4 x 6 foot Led Zep concert poster your uncle still has hanging in his rec room. I’m talking about striking, vibrant art — created by legitimate artists and graphic designers — which is basically used to promote bands and their specific shows.

If you are a fan of rock music, and especially punk, you’ve probably seen some of the classics by legends like Art Chantry, Chris Cooper (Coop!) and Frank Kozik. Most of these fellas were not afraid to add a little shock value in their pieces and often came under fire from people lacking a sense of humor. While I dig that style a lot, I am more a fan of the new breed of poster artists (Nate Duvall, Strawberry Luna, Jay Ryan, Diana Sudyka, Nick Rhodes ), especially Dan Stiles. Check out his online gallery and grab a few of his exquisite works before he blows up big time and you can’t afford his work anymore.

If I’m talking artists who worked in the music world, I’d be remiss not to mention the legendary Jim Flora.

I also love and just started collecting vintage airline travel posters for no good reason. I’m not an airplane buff nor have I traveled to many exotic locales, I just love the simple yet majestic style and typefaces used on these posters. These posters, mostly from 50s and 60s, exuded the hope and promise of a bright future and always put me in a swell mood. Chisholm Larsson Gallery and International Poster Gallery are my favorite places to browse.
