People We Like: Seth Green

Philly “celebrities” fall into a scarce few categories: newscasters, pro athletes, reality show retards and of course Will Smith. While everyone in the universe loves the Fresh Prince (the biggest box office star in the world and possible Scientologist), he is not my top-rated Philly thespian in Hollywood today. I know, Smith must be crushed.
That honor goes to the always agreeable Seth Green, aka “Scott Evil” (Austin Powers), “Chris Griffin” (Family Guy) and “Oz” (Buffy). The 35-year-old actor hails from the Overbrook Park section of Philly and has been in the biz since he was six, working steadily since. I first recall him in Woody Allen’s “Radio Days,” (excellent flick, way before the Woodman got all pervy and lost his marbles), where he stole many scenes and you could tell at that early age the kid had some serious comedic chops.
Green is a comic book nerd with a sharp wit who keeps out of the tabloids and takes on some interesting projects. Sure, he’s done his fair share of crap movies, but he always keeps his cool, droll demeanor in tact no matter how bad the film is. You must give the brother a lot of credit, being a diminutive red-headed guy doesn’t exactly open a lot of doors for you in Tinseltown.
I heard a funny interview with him yesterday on the Opie and Anthony show where he was promoting his hard-to-classify yet hysterical animated show “Robot Chicken” and the new “Robot Chicken Star Wars” DVD (actually endorsed by George Lucas!).
O&A were kind enough to unearth an old “Nerf Slingshot” commercial he did back in 1992 where he attacked people in a mall armed with only a gun, a sweet-ass hairdo and a horrific New York accent. The commercial never aired, but the video went viral a while back. Please enjoy:

Green said the clueless client wanted a New Yorky “Joey Bag’ o’ Donuts” accent and thought shooting girls in the face in public was a great way to promote their product. He handled the cringe-worthy video discussion the with good nature.
So Seth Green, we salute you for making Philly proud and keeping Gervase and that broad who served food from a garbage can on “Hell’s Kitchen” a distant second and third on our list of favorite Philadelphians.
