Startling Revelations from the Genesis Documentary
May 28, 2017
I watched a 2014 BBC documentary called “Genesis: Together and Apart” last night and was pretty floored by the following:
- “Abacab” stands for… All Babies Are Cute As Buttons.
- Peter Gabriel owns over 1,000 sledgehammers.
- There were actually three real mechanics in Mike + The Mechanics.
- “Tony Banks” was a stage name in honor of his father who owned many fancy financial institutions.
- Two members could dance.
- Peter Gabriel almost died from lead paint poisoning after wearing his “Wizard of Oz” Tin Man costume for 42 straight days.
- The original name of the band was The Merseyside Posh Lads.
- The song “Invisible Touch” has appeared in over 100 ghost and horror movies.
- When Genesis switched to pop rock they were met with upwards of 8-10 prog rock fans protesting outside every show.
- Ronald Reagan banned the “Land of Confusion” puppets from entering the United States.
- Phil Collins’ ex-wife once accused him of “Hurrying Love.”
- Ten different British paper plate manufacturers have used the song “Paperlate” in commercials since 1982.
- Phil Collins turned down the sequel to 1998’s “Buster” and the role was given to Def Leppard’s Phil Collen.
- Tony Banks once went six straight years without smiling.
