The monologue was solid, but a little long. I got a worried his energy level would peter out, but the pace picked up from there. Even while wearing Eddie Murphy’s ridiculous, skin-tight purple leather suit later in the show (I thought he was going to pass out), Conan was on fire and proved to be a great showman.

Conan O’Brien comes to Philly — Tower Theater, Upper Darby — on June 7th. This comedy juggernaut is called “The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On Television” Tour. Sweet!

“To all the people watching, I can never thank you enough for your kindness to me and I’ll think about it for the rest of my life,” O’Brien said. “All I ask of you is one thing: please don’t be cynical. I hate cynicism — it’s my least favorite quality and it doesn’t lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen.”

Norm MacDonald kills on Conan O’Brien with his “vintage” jokes shtick. Love it. Jim Gaffigan and Neko Case also appear.
