Things That Scarred Me When I Was Young: "The Brood" (1979)

"... a film so terrifying it will devastate you totally!" Yes, bad movie copywriter, I was indeed devastated, like totally. This early David Cronenberg film (1979) scared the living daylights out of me. That's because I would only watch it during the day (4:30 Movie), many many soul-scarring times. Synopsis:

A husband tries to uncover a shady psychiatrist's therapy techniques on his institutionalized wife, while a series of brutal attacks committed by a brood of mutant children coincides with the husband's investigation.

I won't give much away, but the kids are smallish, travel in packs, have razor-sharp beaks and do not play well with others. Did I mention they have fucking beaks!?! Aaaaahhhhh! Many sleepless night for young Jeffer thanks to these murderous little scamps. Like most Cronenberg films, there's a fair share of weirdness and metamorphasis type imagery and let's just say, the ending is a real doozy! Enjoy.

Our pal, actor and horror film buff, Joe Lo Truglio also has a soft spot for the film.
