Movie Trailer Review: Step Brothers

Based on the box office of Dewy Cox and Semi-Pro, I think Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly will be begging their agents to find them the most indie, non-comedy project out there just to stave off the negative overexposure comments. Probably a smart movie. We could all use a break.

But before these two grow beards, get divorced and talk about childhood abuse and intimacy issues in their next sure-fire Oscar talk flicks, they have one more blast of inane, man-child madness for all to enjoy (or ignore) this summer. These guys are very funny, no doubt, but this Dumb and Dumber premise just feels a bit desperate. Mary Steenburgen can’t be happy being cast as Ferrell’s mother either (ouch!).

Ferrell has a Land of the Lost remake coming up in 2009, while not break from comedy, at least its a break from his writing partner Adam McKay. Reilly has Cirque du Freak coming out at the end of the year. This looks very cool, despite the vampires being friendly, not evil.

  1. Yeah, I made the mistake of going to see Dewey Cox in the theater…I didn’t have high hopes for it, but I went with my brothers, with whom I laugh at EVERYTHING…and even then there was nary a tee-hee to be had. I’m sure they had fun making it, but by the time it got out there…ho-hum.

I have to admit though, that I did chuckle at this trailer - specifically the bunk bed bit. I will probably end up seeing it in a moment of weakness (against my better judgement), and realize that the clips shown here are the only mildly funny parts of the whole film. Prove me wrong, fellows!
