Video: “Starz in Their Eyes” by Just Jack

A nice perk of running this little website is getting a bunch of free CDs from record companies. I generally like the stuff from indie labels and am very wary of the major label offerings. So, I had low expectations when I received a package from TVT records containing Overtones by the hard-to-categorize British artist Just Jack. Much to my surprise, I dug the CD. Please note, I know nothing about British pop music or dance, or house or whatever you might put this under, but Jack’s North London delivery is entrancing and the music is just plain fun, relying more on bouncy melodies and simple beats than the over-sampled and repetitive nonsense i was expecting. According to the enclosed press clippings, the single “Starz In Their Eyes” was a big hit across the pond. Deservedly so, it’s quite groovy and should prompt you to shake your arse a bit.
